Summer Vacation

I am about to embark on my first trip as an ostomate!! I am both excited and nervous. I will be flying out to Seattle, Washington from Indianapolis (with a short stopover in Denver). This will be my first time on a plane with my ileostomy. I am very excited for the trip, but I have read a few horror stories about bags blowing off due to the change in air pressure!!! My ostomy nurse assured me that I should be okay, and I am hoping she is right! I will keep you updated on how it goes! Wish me luck :)

  1. Hey Mary, I love your blog. I was looking swimsuits for ileostomies and I arrived to yours. I have a similar blog but in Spanish. When I was 25 I was diagnosed with colon cancer and all my colon was taken out, with a j-pouch and a provisional ileostomy which I had for 1 year. Then I was operates again, after chemo. In June i was diagnosed cancer again and after some chemos I had another operation, but doctors could not operate, and left me again with ileo, forever. I had lots of pain during the last months of my j-pouch and doctors said in 10 more days it would have closed. And I do LOVE LOVE LOVE having my ileo again. I thank you for sharing your experience I know in this way we help lots of people, it’s not easy to explain this things, but this is the attitude, overcoming our society fears. I really wish I had found this blog before being operated for the first time, I looked for blogs like yours that explains everyday life in this open way. Thanks and good luck! Nuria (barcelona)
